Then I guess, white is fashionable again: the Phonofone II is entirely done in ceramic, a retro-avant-garde piece of science, art, and beauty, plus being able to play state-of-the-art technology. This is one of my latest findings, a "twisted" listening device that surely is recurring icon now that the Grammys are quite close.

About the thingy: it transforms any personal player/earbuds into an audio console, just placing the buds on the rest piece. It doesn't use any power at all, just the conventionals of the acoustics physics, virtue granted by the horn (passive amplification) and the material. The sound is pristine, or so the website says, with some restrictions. For more info on this go to Science & Sons

¿El blanco de moda? Otra vez, parece, y el Phonofone II es el mejor ejemplo. Entre lo último que he encontrado en gadgets está esta pieza retro-vanguardista hecha en cerámica blanca, que conjuga arte, belleza y ciencia, permitiendo sonar lo último en tecnología. Transforma cualquier MP3 player/audifono en una consola, solamente poniéndolos en la pieza. No usa electricidad o baterías, sino física, a través de la amplificación pasiva dada la acústica del material y la forma del cuerno, obteniendo un sonido similar a las bocinas de un laptop. En el Río de la Plata se usa para designar el conjunto formado por la ropa y enseres personales de los pobres, como en este panfleto de Hilario Ascasubi (1807-1875), citado por Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986):

Entretanto en los barriales
de Palermo amontonaos
cuasi todos sin camisa,
estaban sus entrerrianos
(como él dice) miserables,
comiendo terneros flacos
y vendiendo las cacharpas...

Cacharpas se usa siempre en plural; es palabra procedente del quechua kachárpa que significa "trebejos, utensilios sin valor". Cacharpero es la persona que vende o negocia con cacharpas.

El argentino José Gobello, presidente de la Academia Porteña del Lunfardo*, en su Nuevo diccionario del lunfardo (1997), afirma que "cacharpas" dio lugar a "carchas", que son los enseres y ropas del enemigo caído en acción y al verbo "carchar", que significa "apropiarse de las carchas".

Clash of the...

I don't know if Titans (which, by the way, is the team from Tennesee) would be the word, but certainly, Patriots v. Giants, it's gonna be quite a titanic game.

It will be played in the new Univ. of Phoenix Stadium. This "state-of-the-art" stadium, designed by architect Peter Eisenman, opened a year ago in Glendale (west of Phoenix, AZ.), and it permanently seats 63,400, but for special events (such as the Superbowl), it can expand to a 73,000 capacity. Regarding the game, my insight, others thoughts, and the usual ranting, I will be posting in the near future in regards that... or whatever comes first. Superbowl XLII will be on Sunday 3 February 2008, and the kick-off at 6:18PM GMT-5(go figure). I guess besides FOX you may watch it in any local network, don't know that yet -- o bother!

This picture was taken on Sunday 20 January 2008, at around 6:30PM, using the LG ME970 cell phone camera, with monochrome treatment. The view is from the Amador Causeway.

The cosmopolitan capital city of the country lays on the Pacific Ocean coastline, just a few kilometres from the Panama Canal. The Amador Causeway serves as a breakwater in the Pacific entrance of the canal, and as well, connects the mainland with 3 islands, which are currently (being) developed and marketed as turistic landmarks and entertainment spots.
