HM the Queen

The Queen of England (and the other realms of the UK, etc, etc, etc) has been 60 years in the throne.
No big news. We all now this.
"Time" magazine dedicated August issue to her and all the Royals. Something my friend Liz will is happy about, because she's such a great Brit supporter... And I mean, Liz, my friend since college, not Elizabeth Windsor (of course).
Anyhow, such great festivities in London, just before the Olympics.

Mi visita a "Sukhi"

El viernes salí a explorar una opción diferente de comer en nuestra cosmopolita Ciudad de Panamá : comer comida tailandesa en Sukhi.

Según su sitio web, "Sukhi" significa "gente contenta y saludable"; puedo decir que salí bastante contento y (creo) que comí bastante saludable...

Les puedo comentar de lo que comí (y de lo que piqué de mis compañeros comensales):

• Thai Money Bags: 3 wantones fritos rellenos de una mágica mezcla de puerquito, camarones y castañas de agua, con un toquecito de picantito y dulce de salsa.
• Pad Thai y Drunken noodles, (ojo: compartidos, que no soy 'tragaldabas'), son como una sinfonía en tu boca por la variedad de sabores que armónicamente se mezclan en tu paladar para contrastar lo dulce, lo picante, lo amargo, con una variedad de tonos entre los fideos, los vegetales y la carne.

Para refrescar la garganta, una limonada con menta - admito, pedida con cierta curiosidad y reticencia, pero totalmente ¡recomendada! Como colofón, hay un postre que no está en el menú que es de galletas, helado y chantilly que les recomiendo pedir.

La relación calidad-precio es buena, el ambiente es relajado y la atención es cordial.

Dos recomendaciones:

• armése con un poco de paciencia ya que como la comida es preparada en el acto demora un poco (pero no mucho, no se asuste);
• ponga atención si alérgico al maní o a los mariscos: mucha de la comida preparada y servida contiene estos ingredientes.

Open Happiness (Coca-Cola Christmas add)

The Holidays are coming!

This 2010 Coca-Cola Christmas advert is called Snow Globes, even though is not the "classic" delivery-truck-with-lights commercial we used to see in the 90's, it still adds that concept -- which I love, since for me seeing those lighted vehicles go by is a simile of "let's start the Christmas season" (pop culture quote and pause here please).

So, you'll see how in a town (like this), inside a snow globe, its inhabitants experience the spectacular to the magic of Christmas Eve, by the means --of course-- of Father Christmas shaking the artifact, while drinking a Coke (and everyone noticing because of the "fizz"). Featuring Train's "Shake Up Christmas", this is an add that I pretty much won't get tired to watch...

Anyhow, enjoy the video... Most likely I'll post some more in the coming days (let me just surf a little for that).

Meanwhile: the Holidays are coming! ♫

People say: "A picture is worth a thousand words"; well if that is so, you certainly want to make a good impression! How to express confidence without opening your mouth doesn't need to be challenging. Here there are some interesting pointers that may help you project a strong, confident, capable attitude. Libertango

Esta es una pieza que me ha gustado desde hace tiempo, espero que os guste.

"Libertango" is a composition by Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla, published in 1974. The title is a portmanteau merging "Libertad" (="Liberty") and "Tango", symbolizing Piazzolla's break from "cannonical" tango to "tango nuevo", by incorporating elements from jazz and classical music to the tango. In the video we see cellist player genius Yo-Yo Ma (馬友友).

Feria de Colecciones

Feria del Libro

Próximamente será la Feria del Libro en Panamá, y quisiera mostrarles una nota que mi estimado amigo Eduardo Lince Fábrega me ha enviado. Les extiendo también a ustedes la invitación.

Amig@s, es para mí un placer invitarles a las presentaciones del Grupo Letras de Fuego para la Feria del Libro. Entre las mismas está contemplado el lanzamiento de mi más reciente aventura juvenil "El jardín interior". El libro cuenta con ilustraciones del talentoso artista nacional Valentín Calderón.

"Ya está listo el tercer relato de Casilda, donde la historia se concentra en salvar al Bosque Escondido de la maldad de sus enemigos. Una niña desconocedora de su poder será la clave. Una noche de Luna Nueva será el instante de revelar la verdad. Un jardín interior será el escenario de el nuevo comienzo...y el gran final".

Será para mí una alegría compartir con ustedes el cierre de la trilogía el día viernes, 21 de agosto, a las 5 de la tarde, en el salón Bejuco del Centro de Convenciones Atlapa, en el marco de la Feria del Libro.

Sumo: silla, puff o qué

Como lo quiera llamar, esta bolsa de pellets es lo último que he encontrado en internet para el ambiente “cool”.

Están hechas de nylon ultra-de-última-generación, relleno de pellets de foam. Supuestamente diseñados para los ambientes de casa y oficina, inclusive la piscina (son resistentes al agua), a mi concepto parecen una opción versátil para la decoración moderna y descomplicada.

Me pregunto dónde venderán unos de éstos acá...

Carmina Burana in concerto

Iñaki Urlezaga, argentino, es bailarín principal del London Royal Ballet y principal bailarín invitado en el Het Nationale Ballet de Holanda. Es fundador de la "Compañía Ballet Concierto", en tablas desde el año 2000.

Su versión de "Carmina Burana" (Carl Orff, alemán, 1895-1982) es un espectáculo de danza moderna, contemporánea y clásica, con una fuerza que ha arrasado en otras capitales del mundo.

"Carmina Burana" la comprenden cantos poéticos, profanos, irónicos y atrevidos de la Edad Media, convertida en cantata por Orff en 1937. Quizás la pieza más conocida sea "O Fortuna" (Fortuna Imperatix Mundi).

Esta novedosa puesta se presentará en única función este viernes 7 de agosto en el Teatro Nacional. Acabo de comprar mis boletos... y espero un gran espectáculo.

Then I guess, white is fashionable again: the Phonofone II is entirely done in ceramic, a retro-avant-garde piece of science, art, and beauty, plus being able to play state-of-the-art technology. This is one of my latest findings, a "twisted" listening device that surely is recurring icon now that the Grammys are quite close.

About the thingy: it transforms any personal player/earbuds into an audio console, just placing the buds on the rest piece. It doesn't use any power at all, just the conventionals of the acoustics physics, virtue granted by the horn (passive amplification) and the material. The sound is pristine, or so the website says, with some restrictions. For more info on this go to Science & Sons

¿El blanco de moda? Otra vez, parece, y el Phonofone II es el mejor ejemplo. Entre lo último que he encontrado en gadgets está esta pieza retro-vanguardista hecha en cerámica blanca, que conjuga arte, belleza y ciencia, permitiendo sonar lo último en tecnología. Transforma cualquier MP3 player/audifono en una consola, solamente poniéndolos en la pieza. No usa electricidad o baterías, sino física, a través de la amplificación pasiva dada la acústica del material y la forma del cuerno, obteniendo un sonido similar a las bocinas de un laptop.
